Growing up one tends to see the Sahara as this co-actor of any movie that takes place in its setting. The lack of water, the sun's heat, riding in camels all day long, the sandstorms, and the lack of food. 

I didn't get to experience the lack of water or food. I got to experience everything else. Including the riding of the camels. I'm usually against using animals as tourist traps. 

I've never experienced constant dry heat like this all throughout the day and night.
